What A Day at JPC Looks Like

Student Schedule Ages 3-5

7:45 AM-8:45 AM Early Drop Off/Free Play in their Classrooms
  • We always make sure that the students come in ready to learn by making sure that they wash their hands thoroughly and put their lunches, coats, and water bottles in their cubby. Our students, age 3 and up, do this on their own to foster their independence.
  • Parents sign their child in through the Brightwheel app before leaving for the day.
8:45 AM-9:20 AM Bathroom/Morning Snack/Get Ready for the Day
  • We get students ready for the day in their classrooms and take attendance before heading over to Welcome Time in the Welcome Room.
9:20 AM -9:40 AM Welcome Time
  • Our version of Circle Time at JPC. Each student comes into the Welcome Room to have songs, sign-language, calendar, weather, and dancing led by Ms. Li-Or or Ms. Megan (depending on group)
  • On Fridays, Cantor Amanda joins Welcome Time to lead in Shabbat songs, prayers, and of course, challah and grape juice!
  • This gives our students a chance to warm up their brains and bodies before getting ready for learning and play throughout the day.
9:40 AM-12:00 noon Learning through Rotations
  • Our unique approach to our early learning involves rotating from class to class, similar to what you would see in secondary schools. Subjects vary day to day, but typically include: journal/prewriting, art/enrichment, math, science, social-emotional learning, sign-language, music, library, cooking, Jogging Club, and more!
  • Each rotation lasts twenty minutes: plenty of time to learn without losing interest!
12:00 noon-12:30 PM Playtime Outside or Upstairs (Weather Permitting)
  • We have a fantastic outside area with playground, age appropriate bikes, trikes, and other vehicles, toys, chalk, etc. On days with extreme weather, we have both a playroom and a social hall that doubles as a preschool gym.
  • Our students are supervised by multiple teachers, but sometimes accidents happen. All of our teachers are certified in CPR/First Aid.
12:30 PM-1:00 PM Lunchtime/Dismissal of 1/2 Day Students
  • After a busy day of learning and playing, lunchtime is important to refuel and grow our bodies. Parents should pack a nutritious lunch for their child with whole foods, healthy sources of proteins, carbohydrates, and fat and labeled with their name and date per state regulations.
  • We model healthy eating habits by encouraging our students to eat their grow food first and talking about their nutrition. We also focus on eating in a timely manner, drinking plenty of water, and taking small bites.
  • Students that leave at 1:00 are brought back to the JPC entrance for dismissal through the car line and to be checked out with the Brightwheel app.
1:30-3:30 PM Nap time for Nappers/Afternoon Play for Up Kids
  • Getting the chance to rest is essential for our student's development. Each student is laid on their nap mat (provided by parents) and gently encouraged to sleep with calming music and encouragement.
  • For students that do not nap, we provide a quiet period for them to rest, then we take them outside (weather permitting), play games, work on art projects, and continue to develop their minds and bodies.
  • All nap mats are sent home at the end of the week to be washed and returned the following week.
3:30 PM-4:00 PM Get Ready for Dismissal/Afternoon Snack
  • As students get up from nap or transition from play, we offer a small snack before helping students gather their lunchboxes, water bottles, jackets (if needed), and other materials they would need.
  • On Fridays, students bring home their backpacks, JPC folders with announcements, important papers, and student work. Please bring their folders back the following week.
4:00 PM-5:00 PM End of Day Dismissal/Sign Out through Brightwheel
  • Our students will typically dismiss from outside (weather permitting) with their supplies. Please make sure you sign them out through our Brightwheel app on the tablet.
  • Dismissal might take a minute because students are required to clean up their vehicles/toys they played with before gathering their things. We foster independence and ask that students gather their things independently.

Overview

JPC offers a unique curriculum that allows each teacher to focus on the subject that they are most passionate about. In addition, it allows all staff members to get to know all the students. This helps promote the JPC family motto! Each student will have Journaling/Cooking, Math/Science, Art, & Social Emotional/ Sign Language class in addition to the special of the day which includes Soccer, music 3 times a week, Library and Shabbat.

In Journaling, students will develop a love of reading and writing by being the authors of their own Journal. Students will spend all year working on their Journal while growing and developing their love for literature. Once a week, students will become Chefs and create a meal that fits the theme of the week.

In Math, students become engaged with numbers and shapes. With a hands-on approach to math, students have fun learning the building blocks of numbers which creates a path for success in our 3-dimensional world. Though science is incorporated throughout the entire curriculum, once a week, students will put their science skills to the test and incorporate a science experiment that fits with the theme of the week.

In Art, students are immersed in a hands-on approach to Art which allows students to grow their own creativity process. We believe in open-ended art and provide the students with a variety of materials that fits with the artist of the month. Once students learn about the artist, they are given the freedom to create their own masterpieces in that artist's style.

With all the creativity flowing, Social Emotional & Sign Language class allows students to take time to reflect on their work and their feelings. It allows students a chance to learn about different emotions and what they all mean within the span on a busy day. This class allows students to learn to self regulate and grow confidence in their own abilities to advocate for the things they want and need.
